Many users have received the Android 4.4.3 update now which contained a few cosmetic changes and out of nowhere Google has pushed out an OTA for version 4.4.4. As always Nexus users get first preference, the Nexus 5 being the first and others following suit. We have no news regarding Google Play edition devices

The new update has no visible changes as we can see, most of the changes are under the hood namely a security patch related to OpenSSL and a potential man-in-the-middle attack. The main bug appears to be the CVE-2014-0224, OpenSSL early CCS issue, also related to the “Heartbleed” bug we just got over.

For the geeky ones, here’s a shortened version of the changelog

6da2c75 : CTS test for OpenSSL’s early CCS issue (CVE-2014-0224)
e502d40 : Fix a concurrency bug in OpenSSLHeartbleedTest.
1856a4e : CTS test for Heartbleed vulnerability in SSLSocket.
afae5d8 : Block access to java.lang.Object.getClass in injected Java objects

Here are the OTA’s for the

Nexus 10

Nexus 4

If you still haven’t received the OTA for the Nexus 5 then head on over to the Google Dev Site for instructions and the image to flash it manually and check out the XDA thread.

And in other news if you are the owner of a Motorola Droid Maxx, Ultra or Mini you will skip 4.4.3 and leap over to 4.4.4 but you’re gonna have to wait a bit.

Let us know if you’ve received the update on your device, Stay tuned for more
