We knew that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 was coming our way, but we didn’t know exactly when. Today Qualcomm has finally revealed its Snapdragon 820 processor. The new chip is expected to be powering most of the major flagships in the next year. Qualcomm promises faster speeds with the new chip and they say that it has a more power-efficient design, along with some great new features – Quick Charge 3.0 being one of them.

The Snapdragon 820 clocks in at 2.2GHz and packs Qualcomm’s new Kyro CPU, which the company says will offer twice as much power and efficiency as last year’s Snapdragon 810 thanks to the new 14nm FinFET process. It also includes a new Spectra image signal processor, which lets you capture photos with up to 28-megapixels, and a Hexagon 680 digital signal processor for better battery life and performance. Other specs include an X12LTE modem and advanced tri-band Wi-Fi.

In terms of graphics the Adreno 530 GPU is used with the Snapdragon 820. It’s said to come with a 40% improvement to graphics performance, compute capabilities, and power usage when compared to the Adreno 430 from the Snapdragon 810.

Qualcomm’s new processor also introduces Quick Charge 3.0, which the company says is 38 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0 and four times faster than regular charging.

The new snapdragon 820 SoC also includes support for Snapdragon Sense ID, which is a new security feature that takes an ultrasonic reading of your fingerprint to unlock the device.

We will see the Snapdragon 820-powered devices in Q1 2016, and Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S7 might be one of them.

Let’s wait and see. Be sure to share the news with your friends.
