Samsung unveils the sucessor to the MicroSD Cards as UFS Memory cards with much faster speeds

MicroSD has been the standard when it came to removable memory cards for a while. Samsung has just launched the successor to the MicroSD cards as UFS Memory cards.

UFS stands for Universal Flash Storage, and it is much faster offering storage capacity of either 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB.

The UFS cards have 5 times faster read speeds than the Best MicroSD Cards available right now with sequential read speeds of up to 530 megabytes per second. That means reading a 5 gigabyte, full HD movie in roughly 10 seconds, says Samsung, compared to a UHS-1 microSD card which manages the same feat in around 50 seconds.

Not only the read speeds, the Write speeds are also significantly improved, with rates of up to 170 MB/s. That’s nearly double the performance of the fastest microSDs, but seven or eight times faster than the cards recommended to non-professionals.

Samsung is aiming this at people using high resolution content and they said that it is necessary to have this much power to have high resolution content.

The design of the cards are much similar to the current MicroSD cards from the front as you see in the picture, but at the back the pin configuration is quite different. This could mean that this clearly won’t be compatible with the current products. It could be Samsung that comes up with the world’s first product to support the UFS memory card support. Could it be the new Galaxy that is coming soon – The Galaxy Note 7?

Samsung has not yet announced the price and availability of these new cards, but we should know soon enough.
